Biography: The hermans are a high-energy, loud, musical, rock-punk-jam category-defying band that delivers a high-energy performance every time we take the stage. Our sound, style, and point-of-view is reminiscent of The Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., and Nirvana with jazz influences throughout. The hermans pride ourselves on setting our music apart from that of other bands. The current "rock and roll" scene is saturated with indie rock bands and other various gimmick/image-based music. We believe music should always come before image and this is definitely proven in our live performance and recordings.
The current hermans lineup has been around Missoula, Montana since 2004 and we would have toured sooner but our drummer (like that of any good rock band) fell victim to a serious accident (table saw) and nearly lost his hand. The doctors gave him a recovery time of over six months but the hermans played their highly anticipated comeback show within a month and a half. We then proceeded to tour the Pac-Northwest in January 2007.
In addition, the hermans have played over 100 shows state-wide and across the nation since our birth.
During the first four years of existence, singer Dave Jones and drummer Derk Schmidt kept a journal of our band, which has been published. the hermans: Stalking America, published by Running Press out of Philadelphia, will be in bookstores October, 2007. With a forward by Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam, it is the running, living journal of a working rock band from Anytown, USA. In support of the book, we toured to the East coast in June 07, including a stop in New York City for Book Expo America and a show at the famous Don Hill’s club, plus stops in 6 other cities.
In July of 2007, the hermans added guitarist Chris "The Count" Knudsen to our lineup. The Count is an established touring musician as well as the bassist for the Missoula-based International Playboys. Count will play rhythm and lead guitar and plans to tour with the hermans in October 2007 to promote the release of our book. This tour will comprise of two weeks down the west coast and back, including stops at radio stations and Barnes & Noble bookstores with live in-store performances and book signings, followed by rock and roll shows at night in each city.
We saved our "influences" until the end because they are too eclectic a mix to accurately describe our sound. Each member of this band comes from diverse musical backrounds but somehow molded to become the four-headed (now five-headed) rock monster known as the hermans. But if we must, we will each give you one or two influences which probably won't help at all but fuck it:
Dave: the Pixies, The Who - Derk: Walt Mink, the Police - Cale: Edgar Winter, Cole Porter - The Count: Van Halen, Rush.
So there you have it, eight of over a thousand. Thanks.
